Bournemouth has a population of 183,500 and is the centre of a conurbation of over 350,000, often described as the largest non-industrial conurbation in Europe.

The city has a diverse and dynamic service sector, which has seen rapid development over the past twenty years. A number of world-class firms have relocated in recent years to the city, which combines a large pool of skilled workers with a high quality lifestyle.

The five and a half miles of seafront cliffs, promenades, beaches and facilities contribute to Bournemouth’s £462m tourism sector, which currently employs over 11,000 people.  Bournemouth’s Seafront Strategy will update facilities along the coastline and address infrastructure issues within the city and along the seafront in order to meet visitor expectations.

Bournemouth Council has a LABV aimed at realising the Town Centre Vision and the city is also part of the Bath and Poole City Deal, which seeks to improve access to Bournemouth Airport and Port of Poole.  Developing skills in creative and digital sectors and encouraging young people from the two universities to remain in the area are also priority areas within the City Deal.
