Derby is a well connected city, with an 89 minute train journey to London, and 93.8 per cent super fast broadband availability, one of the best percentages in the UK.

Derby has sector strengths in aerospace, rail, automotive nuclear and advanced engineering, and also professional services and creative industries.

Regeneration of the city centre is a priority for Derby and there is £2bn ten year master plan in place to be delivered by the Urban Regeneration Committee to address issues such as infrastructure and demand for office space which currently prevent the city centre from reaching its potential.  £1.25bn of this has already been secured, and £300m has been invested in new leisure, office, housing and infrastructure schemes across the city.

Derby has a highly skilled workforce, 23 per cent of people working within Derby are employed in a high-tech function. Advanced engineering supply chain clusters based in and around the city account for many of these jobs, employing 53,000 people in high tech functions including engineers and software designers. This work is supported by some 17 universities within a 60 minute drive of Derby, and a population of 400,000 students.
