The Key Cities Group are holding a fringe event at the LGA’s annual conference in Birmingham this year. Please come join our drinks reception to find out more about us, our member cities, and how we can work together to stimulate growth and forge new partnerships.

Our fringe event is taking place on the second day of the conference - Wednesday 4th July, 6-7pm in Hall 8A of the International Conference Centre. If you didn’t already know about us, the Key Cities Group is a cross-party partnership of mid-sized city councils, acting as a united voice for working with Government. We are a Special Interest Group of the LGA.

  • Membership currently consists of 20 cities across England and Wales. These are: Blackpool, Bournemouth, Bradford, Coventry, Derby, Doncaster, Hull, Kirklees, Newport, Norwich, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Preston, Salford, Southampton, Southend-on-Sea, Sunderland, Tees Valley Mayoral Combined Authority, Wakefield, and Wolverhampton.
  • Together, we constitute 5.8 million people and deliver a GVA of £110 billion to the UK economy. We have some of the fastest growing local economies in the UK and major strengths in both manufacturing and exports – one in ten of all manufacturing jobs in the UK are located in the Key Cities. Out of the top ten places in the UK that export, 5 of these are Key Cities. If all Key Cities increase productivity levels to the UK average, we would add £17 billion a year to the UK economy.
  • We are supported by an All-Party Parliamentary Group in Westminster. We work with MPs across the political spectrum to raise the profile and voice of the Key Cities and make the case for greater investment in our cities.

Do let us know if you’d like to join us at the conference – please email or telephone 01924 304447. Please feel free to also invite other contacts or colleagues to attend with you.
