Kirklees enjoys a unique location in the heart of the north - between Manchester, Sheffield and Leeds - with ease of access to a workforce of 3 million, 250,000 businesses, a £150bn economy, and 12 universities.

Economically, Kirklees has one of the biggest concentrations of manufacturing in England. This includes world leading expertise and reputation in component gears, turbo valves, pumps and gaskets and process and systems engineering.  The latter is cutting across markets for energy (including oil, gas, nuclear and wind), water, automotive powertrain, defence, food production and the low carbon economy. We have a long tradition of textile manufacturing and are pioneers in 3D Weaving, DNA anti-counterfeiting and Multiplex Laser Surface Enhancement. All have the ability to totally transform how the textile industry operates.

Kirklees has fast road and rail links to major cities and markets, and is well placed to benefit from international trade, including deep water ports in the North West looking to capitalise on New Panamax opportunities. The TransPennine rail improvements and HS2 will further enhance access to major cities and our central position between the UK manufacturing centres of West/South Yorkshire, the North West and Birmingham.

In addition, Kirklees has a national reputation as a low carbon leader, pioneering new techniques and markets and cutting carbon emissions, growing creative and digital businesses with excellent physical support assets, and next generation digital infrastructure opportunities.
