Lights, Camera, Action for Southampton Apprentices

Southampton apprentices were in the limelight today for the premiere of our new apprenticeships film at the Harbour Lights Picture House.

The film looks to showcase the benefits of apprenticeships in the city as well as helping to provide young people with the key information they need at the transition stages of their education. The film features real people, real jobs and real experiences that young people can associate with and it’s hoped the film will spark conversations between young people and their parents, teachers, tutors and careers advisors.

Chapelgate Films have produced the video which is divided into case studies, each featuring a young person in their workplace talking about their apprenticeship, the pathways, benefits and prospects. The film also includes helpful advice, an interactive quiz and signposts young people towards the information they need in order to help them with the key decisions regarding their next steps.

Councillor Dan Jeffery, Southampton City Council Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Social Care said: “Apprenticeship schemes are becoming an increasingly popular way for people to enter the working world, allowing them to learn a trade and gain valuable on-the-job experience whilst earning a wage. Our aim is to create more apprenticeships in Southampton and to raise their profile among local businesses, boosting employment and making a significant contribution to deliver the workforce of the future and contribute to a vibrant local economy.”

“Chapelgate Films have done a tremendous job in putting together this video and acting in tandem with our new Access Southampton website these new initiatives will contribute significantly to our ambition of creating a minimum of 6,600 new apprenticeships in the city over the next 3 years.”

The film is designed to be used by schools and colleges in the promotion of apprenticeships at events, inset days or parents evenings when an ambassador is not available and can also be used in career’s education settings.
