Newports Friars Walk retail and leisure complex

Friars Walk, the new 390,000 sq ft retail and leisure destination in Newport, will officially open its doors on 12 November 2015.

The scheme is one of the UK’s most significant regeneration investments to be built and delivered post-recession.

Paul Sargent, Chief Executive and co-founder of Queensberry Real Estate said: “It has taken just 4 years to develop the concept, secure funding, find the right tenant mix and build the scheme. It is an amazing success story for both Newport City Council and QRE.”

Latest signings for Friars Walk are trainer and sports fashion retailer JD, jeweller Pandora, Krispy Creme Doughnuts, footwear retailer Schuh, Occassions Cards, the Candle Company, TGI Friday's and Coffee#1.They join Debenhams, Next, Topshop, New Look, River Island, H&M, and, in the lesiure area, Cineworld, Nandos, Las Iguanas, GBK, Loungers, Prezzo, Le Bistrot Pierre, Cosmo, Chiquito and Frankie & Benny's.

Marks and Spencer are also planning to bring a Foodhall to the city centre.

The Friars Walk scheme is the only one from Wales to be highlighted in a new report looking at the UK's top regeneration schemes. The British Council of Shopping Centres report features Friars Walk as one of nine case studies of local councils who have been among the most creative and bold in leading town centre regeneration.
