Key Cities response to Industrial Strategy Green Paper

Cllr Paul Watson, Sunderland City Council

Councillor Paul Watson, Leader of Sunderland City Council and Chair of the Key Cities Group said: "We are pleased to see the Government taking its first steps towards developing a new industrial strategy for the United Kingdom.

"UK cities have the greatest potential for industrial growth, so Key Cities will do what we can to support the development of this strategy. We also know that many of our residents are exactly those who the Prime Minister has identified as being at risk of being left behind - so we want to work with her to ensure that they aren't.

"There are a number of factors we need to consider in developing the right industrial approach - the vital role skills will play in ensuring we have the right workforce. The linkages we need between key industries and their supply chain. The role of energy security and infrastructure.

"We all know the scale of the challenge facing the country. But we are determined to work with our Government to deliver in the national interest".
